Our Story

Utah's Most Experienced
Life Safety Integrator

In business since 2005. NICET IV certified. Based in Sandy, Utah. We've spent more than two decades building the relationships, expertise, and capabilities that protect Utah's most important buildings.

Who We Are

Engineering-First. Relationship-Driven.

Powered Control Systems was founded in 2005 with a clear mission: be the life safety contractor that Utah businesses and general contractors can actually depend on. Not a regional branch of a national company with rotating staff. Not a one-system shop that calls in subs for everything else. A locally owned, deeply experienced, full-service integrator that treats every project like it matters — because it does.

Over twenty years later, PCS has grown into Utah's premier life safety integrator — with NICET Level IV-certified design leadership in-house, 13 system types under one roof, and relationships with fire marshals and building officials across every Utah jurisdiction. Our engineering capability is what truly sets us apart: we produce NICET IV-designed, permit-ready fire alarm drawings in-house, without waiting for an outside engineer.

We work hard every day on the systems that matter most — the systems that protect people when the worst happens. We take that responsibility seriously.

Our History

Utah Life Safety Since 2005

Twenty-one years of taking on bigger buildings and more complex systems — one project, one inspection and one relationship at a time.

2005

Founded in Draper, Utah

Gary Powers and Kelly Reid founded Powered Control Systems in Draper with a focus on fire alarm installation and service for Utah's commercial market.

The Early Years

Inspections, Service & Tenant Improvements

Annual inspections, service calls and tenant improvements became the core of the business — and the start of close working relationships with Utah fire marshals and building officials.

Growth

A New Home in Sandy & a Multi-System Team

PCS relocated to Sandy, where our office is today, and grew beyond fire alarm into low-voltage systems: access control, video surveillance, intrusion alarm, and intercom and nurse call.

Engineering In-House

NICET Level IV Design Leadership

With Nelson Powers — now VP & Director of Operations — holding NICET Level IV in Fire Alarm Systems (#153541), the highest of NICET's four levels, PCS brought fire alarm design in-house. Clients get permit-ready submittals and independent third-party plan review before drawings ever reach the AHJ.

Specialty Life Safety

ERRCS, Smoke Control & Mass Notification

PCS took on some of the most demanding systems in a building: emergency responder radio coverage (ERRCS/DAS), smoke control, and mass notification — alongside elevator monitoring and fire extinguisher service.

Landmark Projects

Utah's Tallest Building & Largest Resort

Fire alarm systems for Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah's largest destination resort, and Astra Tower in Salt Lake City, Utah's tallest building — plus aerospace and defense contractor facilities and federal data centers in Utah (see our projects).

Today

13 System Types & In-House Platforms

PCS designs, installs, and services 13 system types, including the EyeCue, Warden, and SkyFi Cloud platforms built in-house by our own team. Next: building out the PCS Training Portal for our staff and the customers whose systems we install.
